SECURITY SCAM ALERT - VEHICLE AND SUSPECT INVOLVED AGAIN IN THEFT OF SCRAP METAL
The vehicle shown may look familiar!
The reason, this suspect and his vehicle were involved in the theft of scrap metal back in January 2022. However the same suspect with the same lorry is continuing his thefts in the surrounding areas and has made numerous attempts with other contractors throughout SE England. The latest was on the 13th November 2024 at a site in Beckton whereby they tried to gain entry to collect scrap materials.
These same suspects have targeted numerous other premises. The vehicle, a white and black bodied (recently repainted from blue) is a Mercedes Atego HGV registration number YF65TDV fitted with a crane arm.
The driver, a white male who spoke with a Northern accent, was smartly dressed in the appropriate PPE. He was very confident and spoke with authority stating he was the contractor to collect the scrap. In all cases he has called for persons by name hence a degree of previous homework had been undertaken. When confronted on occasions he became very aggressive and threatening.
This vehicle has been involved in a series of attempted thefts and travels considerable distances around the Home Counties to steal.
Can all site managers make their staff aware of this circulation and advise staff to be cautious. On no circumstances is this vehicle to be allowed on site.
