Two males appeared at a Doncaster hirer's depot on the 20 March 2025; and when approached by the depot's staff, one of the two men responded, “just looking around.” They were then asked to leave.
Five minutes later another male walked into the same yard and claimed that they had come to inspect the property on behalf of the landlord. He was wearing a Wincanton Hi-Viz vest. ID was requested from him, and he provided what appeared to be a fake driving licence. He was also asked to leave.

On the 10 March, fraudsters purporting to be Strandhill Civil Engineers Ltd attempted to hire a 3-tonne excavator and ancillary items to a site address: 4 Redbourn Industrial Estate, High Street, Redbourn, St Albans, AL3 7LG.

Stolen 11th March 2025 - from postcode area: S71 1LN, a GAP BOMAG roller from a site in the Asda Barnsley Superstore Carpark.
The offenders gained entry through a fence panel next to the main entrance gate, where they stole the BOMAG roller.

Please be aware that a fraudster posing as ‘Mike – Head of Sales’ at Wilmott Dixon has tried to hire various tools and a dumper to be delivered to 393 Manchester Road, M43 6QF.

On Thursday 16th January 2025 NCATT intercepted a confirmed fraudulent hire of two telehandlers and a large amount of brand-new Harris-fencing to a location in the area of Dudley, West Midlands.
The telehandlers and £50,000 worth of track matting have been recovered, however, NCATT are struggling to identify who the Harris fencing belongs to. There’s a suggestion it may have come from the Sheffield area and delivered to Dudley.

On the 8th January 2025, a national hire company reported an attempted fraudulent hire of two whacker plates and a petrol disc cutter from two of its branches; Brighton (Portslade) and Southampton
The hirer provided the following details:

- Site for delivery: Hove BN3 7BS
A Doncaster based hirer’s depot was broken into at the weekend of 4th January 2025. Thieves entered the building by removing some of the brick work from the external wall. Various small tools were taken.

It has been reported that Redfields Landscaping & Design Ltd had ceased trading on Friday 6th December due to being insolvent. Their yard was broken into where vans and equipment, including hired-in equipment, were stolen.
On the 17 December 2024, a survey unit was stolen whilst on hire in the London Docklands area – the thief, wearing a black balaclava, broke through the site’s fence and stole the EDM unit, this happened whilst the engineer was about to set up, the thief then took off in a black minivan.

2 x commercial vehicles have attempted to enter site and remove scrap rail / scrap metal. The external CHiP storage area currently under MSI PC control was approached by an occupant of a grab lorry stating they were instructed to collect all scrap. A gentleman giving his name as Wayne Seddon of Streamline Projects UK in Atherton, Greater Manchester, opened a trade account and paid the initial hire costs with a credit card. The hire commenced on Wednesday 14th August and Mr Seddon collected the equipment from the depot in person.
